Vision: Loving People to Life

History

Cornerstone Church was founded by Bill Godair in November 1986 in a small building located at 312 W. 12th St. in northern Salisbury. The first Sunday had twelve in attendance, five of which were the Godair family. Pastor Godair continues to serve as the church’s lead pastor.

In 1989, after out-growing the original building, the church relocated to Downtown Salisbury at 127 S. Main St. and continued to experience growth for the next six years.  In July 1996, after several financial miracles, the church bought the present campus from Central Carolina Bank, which was appraised at $2.3 million. The church purchased the building and 8 acres for $500,000!

On Easter Sunday 2008, we moved into our current facility, The Event Center, which is located on the same campus. The Event Center was built with the growth of the church and community in mind. The church continues to grow and we have been blessed to host meetings and events for the City of Salisbury, Livingstone College, the Rowan-Salisbury School System, Carolinas Medical Center, the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce, and many more.

In the fall of 2008, the original building was remodeled and renamed The Education Center, which consists of:

• Business Center (Lead Pastors and Church Offices)
• Planet Kidz (Children’s Ministry Area)
• The Warehouse (Youth Center)
• Suites 100, 101, and 102 (Meeting Rooms)
• Cornerstone Child Development Center

About Us

Proverbs 29:18 says “Where there is no vision, the people perish”. As a young man living in St. Louis, Missouri, God called our pastor into the ministry and told him that he would one day build a multicultural church.

On a weekly basis, people from various religions, nationalities, economic, and education levels meet at Cornerstone to worship the Lord. Matthew 20:16 says “Many are called but few are chosen”. We feel that God has called this ministry to tear down walls of religion, racism, and poverty. These three things have kept God’s people bound for too long:

Religion: Isaiah 45:15 – God is doing a new thing
Racism: Galations 3:28 – All men are created equal
Poverty: 3 John 2 – God wants His children blessed

Our theme at Cornerstone is “Excellence with Simplicity”. This is why we continue to improve and update our facilities, along with our ministries. We believe that God, our community, and your family deserve the best. Our long term vision/goal is to train and send men and women into the greater Charlotte region to plant churches.

In February 2011, Cornerstone purchased forty-six acres at Interstate 85 and Exit 68 (China Grove).
